I love the Fourth of July! I love the fireworks, I love the homemade ice cream, I love the summertime parties with family and friends. And I think the best way to get the most out of your Fourth of July is to get organized (big surprise). Here are three quick ways to get your Fourth of July organized now.
Fireworks: Gotta have them.
Find out where and when local fireworks shows will be by Googling "fireworks shows (your city name)." Put the time and location of your favs on your calendar so you won't miss them. If you want to have your own fireworks show at home, first find out what is legal and what is not where you live. Google "(your city name) fireworks law" and you'll get all kinds of helpful local info.
Pets: Gotta help them.
Pets, especially dogs, are not always fans of the loud noises and heavy vibrations that come with fireworks. Plan ahead for your pet's needs. Find the quietest place in your home and get it ready ahead of time. Maybe some vet-prescribed sedatives are in order. I have friends who give their sensitive Samoyeds their prescription sedative medication; put the dogs, their favorite toys, and their blankies in their SUV in the closed (and air-conditioned) garage; and turn on a radio or t.v. for background noise.
Parties: Gotta be easy.
A great party does not have to be a lot of work. Take advantage of the casual summer lifestyle and plan a progressive block party. Each family puts out one type of food or beverage in their front yard, and everyone wanders from yard to yard eating, drinking, and meeting new friends. Sign up your neighbors a week in advance, assign them a dish/course, and you are done!
