The word "mindfulness" gets used a lot these days, and it can often sound a little woo woo. Really, all it means is paying attention; knowing what's going on inside and around you.
From my perspective, mindfulness is the #1 goal of getting organized. Yes, it's nice to declutter a space, and yes, I do love me some labeled bins. It feels good, and also saves you time every day, to have all your stuff accessible and easy to find. But - what is being organized all about for me?
Being organized is being mindful of your possessions.
What exactly does that mean? It just means you know what you have, why you have each item, and where it is. You don't have dark corners crammed with who-knows-what. You don't have items that you have just to have. What you do have is things you love, need, and use - and you know where they are.
It's as simple as that. Except, of course, that the process of getting there is often not so simple.
